In 1998 much
of the rainforest bordering the Golfo Dulce was officially declared the
Piedras Blancas National Park, which
includes 12,000 hectares
(29,640 acres) of primary forests, as well as newly protected secondary
forests and pasturelands.
There are plenty of hiking trails and tours in our national parks.
Several are located nearby. Costa Rica has one of the largest national
park systems in the Americas.

Costa Rica also has some of the highest
storied rain forests in the world. They are perfect for riding the zip
lines through the forest canopies.

We have so much to offer, with horseback riding, kayaking, zipplines, bird
watching, duty free shopping or take a ferry ride to other local towns
like Puerto Jimenez. You can also charter our boat for some whale and
dolphin watching. Playa Zancudo is close by and offers beautiful black sand
beaches.

If time permits try to visit another little local town famous for one of the best left hand surf breaks in the world, Pavones. It is located about 1 1/2 from Golfito and is a great 1/2 day trip. So, if you like to surf, don’t
forget your board. We can also help you reach other virgin surfing
beaches via our boat. |

Do not forget to visit our beautiful rain forests were you can see crocodiles, monkeys, jungle flowers or wild cats.
Enjoy beautiful fire orange sunsets on one of our many secluded
beaches!
Golfito has great opportunities for bird-watching and is also close to
some lovely botanical gardens that you can easily spend a day or more
touring.

Activities
in Puerto Jimenez
BEACHES: If
you're looking to spend some time on the beach, head just east of town
for a long pretty stretch of sand called Playa Plantanares. Farther out the peninsula in Cabo Matapalo, the beaches of Pan Dulce, Backwash, and Matapalo are
located. There untouched natural beauty is breath taking!
Kayaking trips around the estuary and up into the mangroves and out into the
gulf are popular. You can arrange this trips with the hotels
or
with the local tour guides.
There are daily paddles through the mangroves, as well as sunset trips
where you can sometimes see dolphins.
Hiking trips, guided rainforest
tours
around the Osa Peninsula and into Corcovado National Park or rappelling down the face of a
jungle waterfall can make you trip one of a life time. And, if you are still looking for more, adventurous people can book multiday kayak and camping trips through out the Osa Region.
Restaurants Costa Rica is know for good home cooked food and Puerto Jimenez will not let you down! Try restaurant. Carolinas great lemonada and ceviche before heading over to get a great burrido at Junitas grill. Try some good drinks at Parrot Bay's bar. Also head out to La Perla for lunch and enjoy a good walk on there beautiful beach! On you r way back you can stop by Jade Luna for a fantastic diner. These are only to name a few of the areas good rest. and any local can lead you in the right direction!

Activities
in Golfito
BEACHES: The closest spot is Playa Cacao, while not one of the more scenic beaches, offers great food at Seven Mars and great view of the harbor. Also, in front of Golfito harbor is Playa Azul which is a very beautiful beach that can offer good opportunities for surf fishing. Both is only a short boat ride away, from one of the taxis located at the public docks.
Kayaking trips around the estuary and up into the mangroves near Purruja and out into the gulf are
popular. You can arrange this trips with the hotels or with the local tour guides.
Waterfall Tours trips around the mountians and valleys near Golfito are full of Waterfalls. Several are self guided locations or a tour can be set up by the hotels.
Restaurants Golfito not to be out done has some great offerings too. Stop by Mar Y Luna for some great seafood or Banana Bay Marina for a great happy hour and nachos. Then try to eat dinner at Las Gaviotas, Friday and Saturday they usually have a buffet to die for. Hotel Sierra's dinners are not to be left out. Also, a local farvorite is Margarita's located on the road just out of town. Seven Mars in Playa Cacao is great and very cheap. There are many more good locations through out the area.
